Pond Fish - Some Challenges

  1. 4 months ago

Is anyone into raising pond fish. Myself, I never messed around with them much, but I did have an uncle you had some in his younger days, Of course, keeping a pond clean for fish would be a tough job and often his pond became full of too many plants.

Anyway, if you are getting pond fish one big thing to remember is the fact that spring can be deceptive in some areas. In other words, it often seems like consistent warm weather when it is not. In that case, it's advisable in some temperate areas to wait until May 1st to put fish outside.

I've never personally have pond fish in a pond, let alone a pond at all yet. I feel like the water in my area would run a tad too hot during the summer (since it is easily 110+ Fahrenheit outside for 2-4 months before cooling down). Maybe to avoid the water being too warm or too cold, over estimate your water volume so that when the water does need to be adjusted it does slowly and relies more on the ground temperature at night. That or getting some form of large heater (if really required for the smaller pond fish) or even a pond cooler (to keep the water cold for areas like mine) it would allow for the pond to always be well regulated temperature wise.
